CAVE HILL, Barbados, CMC- A new squad of young players has been selected to receive training at the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre for the 2013-2014 programme.

The squad includes Trinidad and Tobago opening batsman Adrian Barath, promising Guyanese fast bowler Ronsford Beaton, and Windward Islands all rounder Dalton Polius.

The new squad will be encamped from June 1 at the Sagicor WIHPC’s facilities located at the University of the West Indies campus here.
“The batting in the regional matches is a good example of an area that we can really improve,” declares WIHPC head coach Graeme West.

“We have footage of when the players have potentially made some mistakes this year and when they have performed well, and use these as opportunities for instruction.”
The HPC programme has been broadened to focus more intensely on developing the mental prowess of players in addition to the standard rigorous training in skills development and fitness required for high performance athletes.

The players will also benefit from specialised training in a number of other areas including their roles as ambassadors, personal development, anti-doping, anti-corruption and media skills.

“Now that I have been in the position at the Sagicor WIHPC for more than 12 months, I feel I’m more confident about the knowledge of players and understanding of how a talented, young player in the Caribbean develops and is looking to the develop,” said West.

“I’ve also had the benefit of watching some of the players in regional matches and looking to see how we can help them improve for the benefit of cricket at the regional, as well as the international level.”

The 2013 programme will conclude in December this year.
