The Indian Cultural Centre this afternoon presents the Bollywood classic Abhimaan from 5.30 pm at its Lot 67 New Haven, Bel Air, Georgetown location.’
According to a press release, this 1973 film stars Amitabh Bhachan, Jaya Bhachan (Amitabh’s wife), Asrani and Bindu. It was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
Abhimaan is the story of a famous singer, Subir who marries a village girl, Uma, who also sings. When Uma arrives in the city, her singing career takes off, just as Subir’s career slides; his pride and jealousy tear their marriage apart.
Jaya Bhachan won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for this film. The film is memorable for its songs composed by SD Burman and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Manhar Udas.
