The Driver’s Licensing Unit will be located at the Guyana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) Headquarters on Camp Street from tomorrow.
A GRA notice appearing in today’s Sunday Stabroek said this unit will undertake the following transactions:
-Processing of new private and hire driver’s licences
-Processing and renewal of private and hire driver’s licences
-Processing of duplicate private and hire driver’s licences
-Renewal of provisional driver’s licences
-Renewal of conductor’s licences
-Processing of foreign driver’s permits
-Processing of international driving permits
The notice said that persons who are applying for renewal of driver’s licences are advised to submit their applications two weeks prior to the expiration of their licences.
The notice added that the examination of motor vehicles will still be conducted at the Smyth Street location of GRA.
This includes the following transactions:
-Registration of new motor vehicles
-Transfer of motor vehicle registrations
-Change of use
-Change of colour
-Change of engine
-Duplicate registrations
-Tint reading for permission to use manufactured tint
The notice said that persons would need to lodge their documents at the GRA’s Licence Revenue Unit and then proceed to the Smyth Street location for the vehicle to be examined.
The notice signed by GRA Commissioner-General Khurshid Sattaur asked for cooperation and patience during the transition period and regretted any inconvenience caused. In recent days several members of the public have written this newspaper complaining about the condition of the Smyth Street location and the discomfort they had been forced to endure.
In a letter in yesterday’s edition of Stabroek News, Sattaur said “The GRA has made a massive amount of investment at its new location to ensure that members of the public conducting business with the entity are provided with convenient and efficient service.
“As such, the GRA is highly optimistic that when the services related to the sale of drivers’ licences are relocated, taxpayers will be satisfied. The public is therefore asked to be patient and to cooperate with the organisation over the matter, including the long awaited transfer of the unit to the new headquarters. I regret the inconvenience caused by the lack of proper systems to deal with the situation and thank the member of the public for bringing it to my attention. Also, I would appreciate if in future other means can be used to have matters addressed. I wish to reiterate my advice to the public that should they experience any difficulty in transacting business with the LRO, they should communicate with or seek clarity from the Senior Manager, Licence Revenue Office; Deputy Head Value Added Tax & Excise Tax; Director, Tax Operations & Services or the Commissioner-General.”
