PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Out-of-favour West Indies opener Adrian Barath says he plans to work hard to improve his game after he was called up for the third intake of the Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) in Barbados.
Barath’s disclosure comes in the face of criticism for his batting following Trinidad and Tobago’s spate of poor performances in regional cricket.
The batsman, who was dropped from the regional side last year, worked with former West Indies star opener Gordon Greenidge in an effort to improve his game.
“I know that I have to keep working on my game. That’s part of being a cricketer,” said Barath.
“That’s why going to the HPC, I will take that opportunity to work on my game, work on what I need to do, (and it will) give me a chance to look at myself and work on my strengths, my weaknesses and so on”.
Barath, who enjoyed a promising start to 2013 with back-to-back half-centuries, is among senior batsmen who struggled to produce big scores in the just ended season.
The opener for top local club Queen’s Park will spend the next six months at the High performance Centre refining his game and will also play competitive matches as he tries to reclaim his spot on the regional team.
“This is going to be something different for me and I will try my best to do what I can do in that period of time,” said Barath.
“I don’t think I’m an old cricketer, I just turned 23, I have a lot of experience under my belt. I can only look to build on it and better my game”.
The new squad of 14 players will be encamped from June 1 at the HPC facilities located at the University of the West Indies campus in Barbados.
