Tournament favourites Butler House solo strike defeated Galton 1-0 to book their final’s berth as the 2013 St. Stanislaus College Inter House Hockey Championships continued at the college’s Marion Forum on Thursday.
Both teams were guilty of missing numerous scoring chances and it took an instant of individual magic from Butler skipper Andy Dindial in the dying minutes of regulation time to break the resulting stalemate.
In the second semifinal the highly favoured Weld outfit was upset by the Shemuel King led Etheridge side 1-0. Incisive raids by the Weld duo of Hilton Chester and Ezekiel Springer was negated by staunch defending from the Etheridge backline marshaled valiantly by Shani Naughton.
With the score tied at the end of regulation time it was Etheridge’s captain King who would become the hero of her team by scoring the winning penalty to complete the monumental victory over the highly favoured Weld side.
The tournament will conclude with the final and third place playoff scheduled for the College’s Marion Forum, Brickdam tomorrow starting at 11:40 am.
