Dear Editor,
While the Guyana Post Office Corporation has being around for decades, we sometimes forget to recognise its contribution to society and our country as a whole. Information technology has replaced the telegraph and written letters to a great extent. We now have the internet and cellphones, texting, BBM, e-mail and other forms of communication. The post offices have continued to stand the test of time and will continue to exist once civilization exists. Our post offices in Guyana have had to face many challenges, namely, staff shortages, robberies, and the infiltration of illegal drugs in the post, just to name a few.
I take this opportunity to salute the post masters and their staff for their sterling contribution to our country. I think at some time the management should come up with some more incentives ‒ eg, the best postman and woman of the year. There is still need for some upgrade of some of the buildings around the country.
Some offices have even ventured into economic projects so as to support their sustainability.
Good luck to our post office staff around the country.
Yours faithfully,
Andrieko Basir
