League leaders Alpha United thumped Milerock 7-1 as action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Super League 2013/2014 season continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on Sunday.
Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams led the rout with a first half brace in the 22nd and 44th minutes while Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson registered a second half double in the 56th and 86th minutes.
Further goals by Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant, Philbert Moffat and Manasseh ‘Ziggy’ Primo in the fourth, 46th and 84th minutes respectively completed the lopsided encounter. Jermaine Grandison was target for Milerock in the 62nd minute. In a post match comment Alpha United coach Wayne Dover stated:“Alpha has demonstrated for a while that we are the best team in the country. The lack of competitiveness has caused come complacency and we need to create a situation where we have a good competitive league. That being said, it was a good game. Milerock came with a good crop of young players which augurs well for the future. While the disparity is still evident and Alpha has a lot of experienced and seasoned campaigners, Milerock had some good success and created some chances in the final third.”
At the Buxton Community ground, East Coast Demerara, Linden outfit Amelia’s Ward United, needled Buxton United 1-0 compliments of a Paul Trotman second half conversion in the 49th minute while Beterverwagting/Triumph United (BV/TU), through first half goals from Eon Dooker and Ronnel Gordon in the 16th and 17th minutes respectively defeated Den Amstel Panthers 2-0 at the Den Amstel ground, West Demerara.
In Berbice, at the Blairmont Community Centre (BCC) Rosignol United was defeated by Georgetown outfit Pele FC 1-0. Okeene Fraser registered the solitary goal of the encounter in the 12th minute.
