Tucville resident Kevin Durant, accused of robbing a man at knife-point of jewellery and other articles, was yesterday remanded to prison.
Durant, 27, of Lot 72 Tucville, pleaded not guilty to a charge of armed robbery when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the allegations against him, while in the Georgetown Magisterial district, Durant, armed with a knife, attacked and robbed Gary Semple of a BlackBerry phone, valued $40,000, a gold chain valued $ 140,000, a gold band valued $100,000, a gold ring valued $150,000 and $12,000 cash.
Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented Durant, told the court that his client has a time sheet showing that he was working at the time the crime was committed. He also said that his client had no antecedents and requested reasonable bail.
The police prosecutor, however, objected to bail on the grounds that if released, Durant would not return to court. Magistrate Latchman subsequently refused bail and Durant was remanded to prison until June 5.
