Residents of Linden who have been experiencing power outages since last Friday should have relief by tomorrow.
LUSCSL General Manager, Esme Yangapatty, told Stabroek News on Monday that at a meeting of Linden electricity providers earlier in the day, it was announced that Bosai will rent three generating sets from MACORP this week and should be able to provide a regular supply to the Linden community by tomorrow.
Yangapatty noted that Bosai generates electricity for its bauxite processing operations and sells the excess that it generates to the Linden Electricity Incorporated (LEI), an arm of the Linmine Secretariat, which sells power to residents and businesses on the east bank of Linden.
She said LEI also sells electricity to LUSCSL, which in turn provides to consumers on the west bank of the town.
The electrical outage was due to problems at Bosai’s generating plant. Yangapatty further disclosed that while Bosai is working to solve the problems at its electricity generating facility, it was announced at Monday’s meeting of LUSCSL, LEI, Bosai, regional and municipal officials and other stakeholders that until electricity generation returns to normalcy, there will be equal rationing of electricity supplied to both banks of the river.
In the meantime, head of the Linmine Secretariat, Horace James, has made repeated television broadcasts, announcing a schedule of electricity supply rationing to the various communities.
Linden, the main residential area in Region Ten, has the distinction of being the only town in Guyana that is divided by a river – the Demerara River.
