Dear Editor,
Guyana is the way it is today because of people like me and you. Yes we can blame the government for everything from the garbage in our front drain to the corrupt state the country is in. Still, it’s people like me and you who are at fault because a government is only as powerful and accountable as we make them. With that being said, change starts with people like me and you. We need to love our country as no one else can. We need to instil values from the days of yesteryear when doing the right thing stood for something.
Who do you think caused the drains to block up? People like me and you.
Who do you think made it the norm for the police to harass us for bribes? People like me and you.
Who do you think made the current generation this wayward? People like me and you.
Do you see the pattern here? Let’s stop thinking our problem is another man’s problem to fix. Let’s fix it ourselves; make ourselves accountable.
Inspiring change is not that hard, it only takes one man to change an entire nation.
Yours faithfully,
