The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) is in the process of finalising arrangements for 100 acres of land to be made available as pasture for the displaced cattle farmers in Tuschen.
A statement from the Ministry of Housing and Water said that in 2001 GuySuCo transferred by way of transport, 1,852 acres of land at Block 8 Tuschen and Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, Region 3, to the CHPA.
In 2010, the CPHA began works under the Inter-American Development Bank-funded second low income settlements programme in the eastern half of Tuschen, Phase II.
According to the statement, in July 2009, before the commencement of housing development, CHPA had met with cattle farmers to discuss alternative lands for cattle grazing. It was agreed that the western half of Tuschen Phase II would be reserved for pasture.
