Furniture giants, Courts Guyana Inc is the latest sponsor for this Sunday’s T20 Independence Cup tournament which is slated for play at the Albion Sports Complex, Berbice.
At a simple presentation ceremony held at the Company’s Office in New Amsterdam, Berbice yesterday, Branch Manager Stanley McKenzie said that “his company is seriously interested in the development of sports in Berbice and will try and work with all the stakeholders to promote it”.
McKenzie stated that he “was aware of the success of the first edition of the Independence Cup and was anxious to come on board for such a high profile tournament”.
Full praise for the manner in which the preparation for the tournament is going so far was given by the manager who mentioned that the process was one of the main reasons he was pleased to be associated with the event in which all proceeds will go towards charity.
McKenzie also said he is willing to “work with the Berbice Cricket Board to promote cricket in schools”.
Tournament Chairman, Anil Beharry confirmed that upon conclusion of the Independence Cup, discussions between the executives of the BCB and the company will begin.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the event, Beharry said he was also delighted at the sponsorship from the furniture giant, adding that “lots of efforts were put into the event and sponsors like Courts will be fully satisfied with the mileage they will get”.
The draw will see Universal DVD Berbice Titans playing Karibee Rice Tigers from 10am, while BK International East Coast Jaguars will face Georgetown Lions from 1.30pm.
The winners will clash in the grand final under lights from 6.30pm.
