On a night highlighted by individual goal-scoring exploits, home side Georgetown Football Club (GFC) led by Keron Solomon’s five-goal haul arrested the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 7-2 as action in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Players Cup continued at the GFC ground, Bourda on Wednesday.
Falling behind to a Randy Carrol fifth-minute strike, GFC would level proceedings one minute later following a cross from the left wing that was clinically finished by Solomon, placing his effort to the top left- hand corner.
GFC would eventually take the lead in 13th minute as a well-played flat cross from the right wing by Solomon would find an unmarked Francis Euseibio who converted. Precocious beyond his years, Solomon would register his double in the 33rd minute as a deep cross from the left side was powerfully headed past the onrushing GPF custodian.
On the prowl in the second half for further goal scoring success, Solomon would complete his hat trick in sublime fashion as he easily skipped past his marker on the edge of the 18 yard area only to unleash a power strike to the bottom left hand corner in the 60th minute that gave the GPF keeper no chance.
Further goals by Solomon in the 71st and 86th minutes and Paul Daniels in the 31st minute would complete the rout. Junior Gordon etched his name on the scorer’s sheet for GPF in the 62nd minute.
In the earlier encounter at 18:00hrs, Camptown FC led by a Rashawn Sandiford first-half hat trick in the 15th, 30th and 33rd minutes overcame Houston Stars 5-2. Devon Forde contributed a double in the 82nd and 90th minutes for the Campbellville-based side.
Burton Shepherd and Joel Junior found the back of the net for the Houston unit in the 78th and 81st minutes respectively.
Action continues at the same venue with two pulsating fixtures slated to commence at 18:00hrs. In the opening game the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will lock horns with the always dangerous Pele FC while in the feature contest at 20:00hrs Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United will oppose Riddim Squad.
