(Jamaica Gleaner) Bridgetown, Barbados: West Indies batsmen Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and all-rounder Andre Russell, were among three players who were named among 14 regional players, who have been placed in Pool ‘A’ of the upcoming Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 player draft.
The draft, which will be held in Jamaica on June 5, will see the trio being joined in the category by current West Indies standouts including Dwayne Smith, Darren Bravo, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach and Fidel Edwards.
The players, who during the planned televised live draft will be assigned to one of six regional franchise teams, will also see 12 international players being put in the pool.
Non-stop cricket action
The international players, who along with the regional players were announced yesterday during a media conference in Barbados include Daniel Vettori, Shoaib Malik, Albie Morkel, Tamin Iqbal and Shaun Marsh.
“In having these regional players mixed with the international players that we have signed, we are looking forward to the CPL delivering non-stop cricket action to cricket lovers all around the region,” said CPL director, Jamie Stewart.
“They are crowd favourites with a number of fans and with their ability to play attacking, entertaining cricket, we anticipate to help deliver a world-class event,” he added.
The draft, in the meanwhile, will see Danza Hyatt, Adrian Barath, Devon Smith, Krishmar Santokie and Nikita Miller highlighting regional players in Pool ‘B’ with Martin Guptil, Kevin O’Brien and James Franklin heading the international players.
Pool ‘C’, which will feature regional Under-23 players, will see Akeem Dewar, Jonathan Foo, Kraigg Brathwaite, Kyle Corbin and Jermaine Blackwood as headliners.
The pooled players are set to join elite listed regional players Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy and Sunil Narine for the July 30 to August 24 tournament.
The elite listed international players are Muttiah Muralithan, Hershelle Gibbs, Ricky Ponting, Mohammad Hafeez, Ross Taylor and Adam Gilchrist.
