Sixteen students of the Sophia Care Centre were yesterday taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea.
Although in a brief statement yesterday afternoon the GPH confirmed treating the students in the Accident and Emergency Unit, up to press time at least one of them had been admitted as a patient in the paediatric ward.
Stabroek News was unable to contact officials of the Sophia Care Centre, while Education Ministry spokesperson Suelle Findlay-Williams said that there was nothing official on the incident as yet.
This newspaper was, however, told by a nurse at the hospital that they suspected the children had ingested contaminated water.
