He is back! Edmond ‘Wonder Boy’ DeClou, the WBC CABOFE middleweight champion is eager to get back in the ring after seven months of inactivity and resume his quest for a world title shot.
June 20 will mark the first step towards that goal, when the ‘Wonder Boy’ (14-1-1, 3 KOs) returns to the ring and defends his title against Jamaican Anthony ‘Blood’ Osbourne in the ‘Land of Wood and Water’ on the card dubbed Guyana versus Jamaica Showdown.

With a victory over the 37-year old Osborne (9-37-1, 3 KOs), DeClou will continue his march on the road for a world title fight which is his dream.

“I think for every boxer the goal is to win world titles and my goal is no different” the 26-year old told Stabroek Sport after a workout at the Andrew ‘SixHead’ Lewis Gym yesterday.

“SixHead did it, (Wayne) Braithwaite did it and I want to do that too, I  am very confident of a victory against Osboure and I see him as just one of the opponents I have to defeat to fulfill my dream” boasted the middleweight champion who is on a 11-fight win streak (six last year).

Meanwhile, DeClou’s coach, Lennox Daniels told this publication that his charge is perhaps at 75 percent fitness and will be at his peak in time for his ring date.

“Right now we are working on his strength and conditioning, he is about 75 percent ready but he will be in top shape as always on fight night, tactically he has made a lot of strides, his defence has improved tremendously and we are confident of a victory”.

Daniels also revealed that CABOFE featherweight title holder, Dominica based, Clive ‘The Punisher’ Atwell will be returning to Guyana this weekend to commence training for the WBC Cup which commences in July in Mexico.

The Guyana versus Jamaica Showdown card will also see Guyanese, Gladwin Dorway, Anthony Augustin and CABOFE flyweight champion, Dexter Marques in action.

Marques will defend his title against Rudolph Hedge while Dorway and Augustin will face Donovan Campbell and debutant Jamaru Nooks respectively

Newly crowned CABOFE welterweight ruler, Jamaica’s Sakima Mullings who is scheduled to face Lewis later this year, will also step in the ring.

Mullings will take on national welterweight champion, Trinidad and Tobago-based, Iwan ‘Pure Gold’ Azore.

The card was originally scheduled to box off on June 8 but according to executives of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), it was pushed back because of a change of venue.
