Multiple South American 10k winner Alika Morgan will miss today’s Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG)/ Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Independence half marathon says the athlete’s coach Leslie Black.
Morgan, who recently won the Telesur 10k road race in Suriname, said she has important competitions upcoming in Trinidad and Tobago.
“I have more important events following the half marathon in Trinidad,” she declared adding that she will be in Trinidad to defend her 5k road race title.
Morgan added that she has been competing repeatedly over the past two weeks in 10k races in Suriname resulting in an injury to her right foot.
“Actually I have been competing for the past two weeks in the back-to-back 10k. I have a slight injury under the sole of my feet. So I am resting from the half marathon. I have more important events following the half marathon in Trinidad,” she told Stabroek Sport.
However, the Ainlim 2010 10km champion indicated that the injury was not serious.
Today’s half marathon is expected to get underway at 5.30am at Paradise Village on the East Coast Demerara and finishes on Main Street in Georgetown
