Local swimmers won three medals yesterday at the 22nd Barbados Aquatic Centre International swim meet at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, St. Michael.
Onika George of Silver Sharks Aquatic Swim Club, Joseph Seguina of Dolphin Swim Club and Leon Seaton Jr., each won a medal in their respective events at the FINA approved championships.
George won a silver medal in the girls’ 13-14 years 500m backstroke event clocking 34.96 seconds. Guyana’s Accalia Khan was unable to medal but recorded a new personal best time of 37.35 seconds.
Seguina claimed a bronze medal in the boys’ 15 years and over 50m backstroke event where he shaved .18 seconds off his entry time of 32.62 seconds.
Seaton Jr., won bronze in the boys’ eight years and under 100m freestyle event registering 1:23.62 seconds, a new personal best time. His entry time was 1:29.60 seconds.
George and Joseph De Nobrega bettered their 100m freestyle times in the girls and boys’ 13-14 age group respectively clocking 1:06.45 seconds and 1:06.16 seconds. Khan and Seguina recorded 1:00.96 seconds and 1:57.96 seconds in the girls 13-14 and boys 15 years and over freestyle events.
Seaton Jr., clocked 48.43 seconds and 52.19 seconds respectively in the boys eight years and under 50m backstroke and breaststroke races. The team was accompanied by Leon Seaton Snr., team chaperone, Mia DeNobrega, Club Coach Sean Baksh and Cuban coach assigned to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Isabel Maria Couso Fals.
