Naomi King yesterday set a new record in the girls’ 9-10 100m freestyle event at the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) National Long Course Championship at the National Aquatic Centre yesterday.
King, of Dorado Speed Swim Club (DSSC) won the event in 1:34:71 erasing the old mark of 1:36:14 set by Amy Grant last year.
Her club mate Deborah Scott finished second in 1:47.39 seconds ahead of Danielle George who clocked 1:54.23 seconds for third and Donna Carter who ended fourth with a time of 1:55:81 seconds.
The girls’11-12 years old 100m freestyle event was won by Sarah King in a time of 1:23:08 with Grant clocking 1:24.36 seconds for second place.
Allysa Nurse of DSSC placed third in 1:28:12s.
DSSC’s Hannibal Gaskin swam won the boys 15-17 years 100m freestyle event in 1:01:95 with Omar Adams and Omari Dunn, club mates of Gaskin, finishing second and third respectively in 1:04.79s (PB) and 1:10.78 seconds.
Olympian Niall Roberts (DSSC) recorded a new time of 33.01 seconds in the boys 18 years and over 50m breaststroke event.
The 21-year-old swimmer clocked 58.32 seconds in the 100m freestyle.
Daniel Scott won the boys’ 11-12 years 50m breaststroke event in 1:17:45s with Nkossi Beaton and Nathon Hackett second and third respectively in 1:25:06s and 1:31:02s respectively while Dylan Nurse (13-14) and Omari Dunn (15-17) won the boys’ 50 breaststroke events in 42:02s and 37.99s respectively while Riley Nurse (girls 8 years and under), Raekwon Noel (boys 8 years and under), Scott (boys 11-12), Nurse and Athena Gaskin all won their 100m freestyle events.
