LONDON, CMC – Veteran West Indies batsman Shiv Chanderpaul and Leeward Islands stroke-maker Chesney Hughes both struck half-centuries in an century opening stand, to lift Derbyshire to a six-wicket victory over Scotland in the Yorkshire Bank 40 here yesterday.
Chanderpaul hit 54 while Hughes top scored with 74 as Derbyshire, chasing 183 for victory at Edinburgh, reached their target with in the 38th over.
The left-handed pair put on 120 for the first wicket and though they fell within five overs of each other to leave the visitors on 134 for two in the 28th over, Paul Borrington (21) and Billy Godleman (21 not out) ensured victory with a 30-run, fourth wicket partnership.
Chanderpaul, in his first season for Derby, faced 80 balls and struck five fours while the 22-year-old Hughes, who stroked a career best 270 not out in a first class game against Yorkshire nearly a month ago, hit nine fours and a six off 73 balls.
Earlier, left-arm seamer Mark Footitt claimed five for 28 to help limit Scotland to 182 for nine from their 40 overs, after they chose to bat first.
At Horsham, Barbados all-rounder Chris Jordan produced a tidy all-round performance to help Sussex beat Kent by 20 runs.
Batting at number eight, the right-hander stroked a cameo unbeaten 37 from 26 balls with four fours and a six, as Sussex rallied to 222 for nine after they were sent in.
He then returned to take two for 36 from his full complement of eight overs to restrict Kent to 202 all out in the last over. West Indies discard Brendan Nash got 35 from 40 balls.
