A bicyclist is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck down on the Houston Public Road yesterday.
Christopher Simpson, 26, was reportedly riding home on his bicycle when he was struck down by a canter truck. The truck driver was taken into custody at the Ruimveldt Police Station shortly after the accident.
His mother, Undra, told Stabroek News that she got a call from the police, who informed her that her son was involved in an accident.
Because of his injuries, Simpson was unable to say what transpired. The man sustained injuries to his head and to the right side of his body. However, his condition is listed as stable.
At the accident scene, there were long stretches of skid marks while Simpson’s hat and slippers were strewn on the road.
The accident occurred just days after Bagotville, West Bank Demerara grandmother Ellen Jones, who was also a cyclist, was fatally struck on the Houston Public Road.
Ellen Jones, 77, died on the spot after she was struck from her bicycle by a minibus sometime last Friday afternoon.
