Murder accused Selassie McFarlane, Seretse Rogers and Marcus Roberts were set free yesterday by Justice Navindra Singh, who found that there was no evidence to implicate them in the 2008 killing of Jermaine Ziage Anderson.
Justice Singh discharged the three men in the High Court after the prosecution had closed its case and before no-case submissions were made by their attorneys. He told them that there was no evidence against them and that they should not have been indicted on the capital charge.
Selassie, Rogers and Roberts were accused of stabbing Anderson to death on April 24, 2008, outside of Demico House, Stabroek, after an argument.
During the course of the trial, a statement given to the police by McFarlane was admitted as evidence but the statement did not incriminate him. The prosecution had also presented six witnesses to the court but no eyewitness.
The men were represented by attorneys Nigel Hughes, Basil Williams and Hukumchand, while Renita Singh and Rhondel Weever presented the state’s case.
