The Disabled People’s Network (DPN) of Region Five closed its activities for Blindness Awareness Month with a sensitization workshop yesterday, made possible through a donation of $50,000 by the Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI).
The workshop was to be conducted by Cecil Morris from the Blind Institute along with president of the DPN; Mark Archibald and a member, Diana Joseph.
Archibald said that sensitization activities are held throughout the year and they have recognized that “there has been over 60% of change in the way persons with disability were treated.”
The workshop targeted family members of the visually impaired, members of the community and representatives from the Regional Democratic Council and the Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
Archibald was happy to be networking with the BBCI and expressed gratitude for the assistance. He hopes too that “we would continue to have partnership in the future.”
In a release, the BBCI said it was privileged to have the opportunity to sponsor the workshop. It promised to “continue to sponsor other events, subjected to the availability of funds at that time.”
