Dear Editor,
Please grant me a space in your newspaper to continue to highlight my predicament with gaining access to potable water in Good Hope, East Coast Demerara. Can somebody please advise me what steps I must take to get the authorities responsible for water to help get this situation sorted out as soon as possible. Just a brief history about Good Hope: the scheme is over 10 years old with over 1500 residents living there and having access to water. In 2010-11 the Central Housing and Planning Authority made more lands available at the back of the village. I was granted a turnkey home from the Ministry of Housing, with the guarantee of all basic amenities. To date I only have electricity ‒ no phone line or water. I know GT&T is responsible for the phone, but with easy access to a cellphone I can do without a landline for now, but other than purchasing water weekly or praying and hoping the clouds open up, I don’t have access to potable water. I think representatives of the Housing Ministry should have been more honest about the procedure to get access to water. Editor, I have already invested heavily in my property and I am now being subjected to the waiting game while the government has the hard-working, law-abiding citizens living without one of the basic necessities.
Yours faithfully,
