The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide, South Australia to develop a programme to foster cooperation for biodiversity, conservation and sustainable environmental management practices.
The document was signed by Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Robert Persaud and Minister for Sustainable Environment and Conservation of Adelaide, South Australia Ian Hunter.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) report said the signing of the MoU will provide support for the Protected Areas Commission and the Three Parks Initiative to enhance green public spaces in Georgetown. Work has already started under the Three Parks Initiative which entails rehabilitating the Botanical Gardens, Zoological Park and the National Park.
“Both countries have expressed a commitment to promote the value of biodiversity to people and to providing innovative educational and public awareness, to engage visitors and encourage them to develop increased knowledge and awareness of the value of plants, the plant world and the environment,” GINA said.
Persaud was accompanied to Australia by Omkar Lochan, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the ministry and Damian Fernandes, Commissioner at the Protected Areas Commission.
