Dear Editor,
Another Independence anniversary has just passed.
I need to remind fellow Guyanese citizens and other observers that independence is merely the achievement of political freedom by a country in order to pursue and establish its own socio-economic and cultural goals and objectives. It bothers me, that we are not seeing indicators showing that Guyana is moving swiftly enough towards achieving declared socio-economic and cultural goals and objectives.
I ‒ and I am certain many of my fellow Guyanese ‒ would like to see, for example, the strengthening of the Guyanese dollar in relation to other currencies; a reduction in unemployment; greater areas of co-operation between the government and the opposition political parties; reductions in blue and white-collar crime; and improvements in the wages and conditions of employment for both private sector and public sector employees.
Yours faithfully,
Morris Wilson
