The Georgetown and East Coast (Country) U-20 Conference Finals in the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) will commence at the Marian Academy School Court, Carifesta Avenue tomorrow from 13:00hrs.
In the Country Conference title game, number one seed Plaisance Secondary will meet the second seed University of Guyana (UG). Defeating the Turkeyen unit by a 32-24 score line in their preliminary encounter, Plaisance will look to their talismanic guard Nikkoloi Smith for his continued all-round contribution if clinching the conference title is to be realised.
However the Turkeyen unit led by their big three of Jonathan Pooran, Quincy Easton and Shaka Codrington will try to formulate a plan to contain Smith and the explosive Plaisance back court when opening whistle sounds.
In the feature contest at 15:00hrs, Defending Georgetown conference champions Marian Academy will try to rebound from their upset cross- conference loss on Monday to the Guyana School of Agriculture when they face off with the Government Technical Institute (GTI).
Overcoming the Woolford Avenue unit by 40-32 margin in their previous encounter, Marian’s efforts will be piloted by the duo of Selvaughn Mosley and Dales Beresford as they strive to clinch a third consecutive conference title come jump ball.
Standing in their path will be the Darroll Williams-led GTI side who will try to upset their illustrious hosts with their physical play and fast paced offence.
Conference play in the Berbice (Ancient County) Zone is scheduled to conclude on Friday June 14th. The conference final is set tentatively for Friday, June 21st.
The Big 10 (Linden) Conference title game is scheduled for Sunday, June 30th. Kwakwani Secondary which is currently an independent (team that is not a part of any conference) will play the winner of the Linden Secondary School U19 tournament in the conference championship.
