The Georgetown International Academy (GIA) is set to stage its rendition of The Lion King.
According to director Collette Jones-Chin, the musical’s synopsis follows the story of a young lion prince, Simba, born in Africa, making his uncle Scar the second in line to the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, to make himself King.
The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame.
After years of exile he is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper and claim the kingdom as his own thus completing the “Circle of Life”.
The play will follow the original script by the Disney franchise. The musical aspect is directed by Mica Gaard, Music Teacher of the Academy.
Grade eight and nine (Form Two and Three) students will form the cast of the play with minor roles for students of lower grades.
The GIA Girls’ choir will also be performing.
