Christ Church Secondary and Charlestown Secondary will on Saturday meet in the final of the Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football Tournament at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue after semi-final wins yesterday.
Playing with only seven players, Christ Church Secondary defeated the defending champions Lodge Secondary 4-1 while Charlestown destroyed Tournament newcomer’s Tutorial 12-0.
Christ Church’s Secondary Kadeem Blackman had equalized in the 20th minute after Shaquille Grosvenor opened the scoring for Lodge with a goal in the third minute.
Andre Trotz in the 54th and 60th minutes and Jovontay Best in the 28th minute were the other goal scorers for Christ Church.
Leon Bishop, Coach of Lodge Secondary in a candid interview with Stabroek Sport said Lodge was not prepared. According to Bishop, the team normally trains on the school tarmac but was unable to since the Caribbean Examinations Council exams commenced.
“Basically training sessions are in the schoolyard and since CXC would have started we were unable to train.”
However, the coach complimented Christ Church for their victory and said “There is no excuse for losing.”
Bishop is hoping that Lodge will regroup in time for July’s Digicel Schools Championship where they are the defending champions.
Meanwhile, Charlestown Secondary crushed a hapless Tutorial High in the final game of the day with helmet-tricks scored by Omari James and Anthony Bartholomew.
James blasted the nets in the third, 20th, 41st and 54th minutes while Bartholomew followed with his goals in the 15th, 28th, 49th and 50th minutes.
Brian Prince was also on target netting a hat-trick in the 17th, 45th and 59th minutes while Shaun Spencer scored in the 42nd minute.
The female final will take place between Tutorial High School and New Campbellville Secondary.
