D’Andrade, Morgan cop second places finishes in T/dad

Trinidad-based distance athlete, Lionel D’Andrade and Alika Morgan both claimed second place in the Eastern Credit Union’s (ECU) 25th Granny Lucess 5K and 15K Classic Road Race respectively in Trinidad & Tobago yesterday morning.

D’ Andrade, who finished third in the Independence Half Marathon last Sunday, stopped a first-second clean-sweep with his second place finish clocking 16:23 seconds.

Trinidad’s Jules La Rose won the event in 16:09 seconds while Shayne Barran (16:51 seconds) placed third.
The Trinidad-based athlete said he will be working on his speed for the upcoming Heart of Barbados 10k and Ministry of Works 5k races in Trinidad.

Morgan switched from the 5k to the 15k Classic and settled for second place clocking 1:02:39 seconds. Last year, Morgan won the 5K but opted to run the 15K after winning Suriname’s Telesur 10K last month.

Tonya Nero claimed the event in 58:18 seconds ahead of Morgan while Guadeloupe’s Christelle Laurent held on for third clocking 1:04:38 seconds.

Independence Half Marathon silver medalist Kelvin Johnson placed fourth in the men’s 15K recording 52:50 seconds. Trinidad’s Denzel Ramirez, Richard Jones and Curtis Cox finished 1-3 in 47:37 seconds, 48:39 seconds and 50:17 seconds respectively.

Meanwhile, D’Andrade told Stabroek Sport yesterday from Trinidad that he wanted to thank his sponsors Builders Lumber Yard and Muhammad Salim for their support.

The annual 5K race attracted 314 participants and the 15K Classic 108.
