Christianburg Wismar Secondary School of Blue Berry Hill Wismar, Linden, will participate in the 27th annual Sir Garfield Sobers U19 International schools cricket tournament to be held in Barbados from July 8-26.
The school will be taking a contingent of 19 persons including 16 cricketers and three officials to the tournament.
The cost per person inclusive of airfare, accommodation and meals is approximately GY $110,000.
This is the first time a school from Linden will be taking part in this tournament and according to the manager of the team Sherwin Graham, school officials including the team coach are looking forward to support from corporate Guyana in a bid to make this an historic event for the country and the young cricketers of Linden.
“Our youngsters are eager to go and compete in Barbados due to the lack of cricket in Linden,” said Graham. “The boys are excited by their selection and are desperate to go other and represent their country,” he added.
Graham said the players were looking forward to support from corporate Guyana.
“Most of our players cannot afford the individual fee of going to Barbados so we are hoping corporate Guyana comes out and supports these youngsters.”
The team will be captained by Linden and Demerara U19 player Stephan Browne.
