A sales manager at Electronics City was yesterday charged after being allegedly caught on camera stealing an iPod Touch from the store.
It is alleged that Melissa Hamilton, 21, of 72 Railway Embankment, Kitty, between May 23 and May 30, stole the device, valued $81,200, from Electronics City, on Sheriff Street, Georgetown.
Hamilton pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Vernette Pindar said that Hamilton was caught on surveillance cameras removing the item from the premises.
The police were subsequently contacted and after investigations Hamilton took them to her home, where a search was conducted and the device was found. The court was informed that the device has since been lodged at the Police Station.
Attorneys James Bond and Paul Fung-A-Fat, who appeared for Hamilton, requested bail.
Bond said that what the cameras caught was merely his client showing some customers the item in the store after which she replaced it.
Bail was granted in the sum of $100,000 and Hamilton was ordered to return on June 4 in Court 10 for a report and fixtures.
