The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Gym was declared the top gym and Rose Hall Jammers (RHJ) Tyron Lashley the best boxer when the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) brought the curtain down on its National Novices and Intermediate championships on Saturday.
At the two-day competition which was staged at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym, Lashley shone the brightest among the upcoming stars of boxing, gaining victories over his two opponents from GDF Andel Douglas and Anthony Scipio.
On Friday, Lashley took out Douglas in the second round while winning by disqualification one night later against Scipio.
By virtue of copping the best boxer award, Lashley also won the best boxer trophy in the junior flyweight division.
His gym mate, Kevin Rodney was adjudged the best boxer in the middleweight category.
Other category winners were Quincy Wright from Essequibo’s Boxing Gym, Orwane Harris (65-69 pounds) Odeny Moore (90-94 pounds), Elijah Insanally (95-99 pounds), (Shaka Moore (105 to 109 pounds), Travis Hubbard (118-125), Wincel Thomas Jr. (bantamweight) of GDF, Kellon King (junior welterweight) of Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), Linden Daniels (welterweight), Kevon Rodney (middleweight)and Desmond Amsterdam (light heavyweight).
In excess of 60 pugilists competed at the championships.
