Minister within the Ministry of Local Government Norman Whittaker on Monday shared that two of the four senior vacant positions within the Georgetown municipality have been filled.
During a press briefing, Whittaker said that the interviewing panel charged with selecting appropriate candidates to fill the positions of Town Clerk, Treasurer, City Engineer and Director of Solid Waste Management has successfully appointed persons to the latter two positions.
Whittaker, who did not disclose the names of the selected officers, said that the persons themselves have not been made aware of their appointment, and said that this will be done during this week.
Meanwhile, appointments to the offices of the Town Clerk and Treasurer are yet to be made, according to Whittaker, due to the fact that none of the applicants interviewed were thought to be qualified enough for the posts. Additional interviews are to be conducted to determine officers for these positions.
Meanwhile, Carol Sooba and Ron McCalmon continue to act as Town Clerk and Treasurer respectively.
On a move prompted by recommendations from the Auditor General and Keith Burrowes Commission, dismissal letters were prepared and sent to the former holder of these four offices for non-performance of their duties over a period of time.
