A couple and their son were yesterday all remanded to prison on a charge of narcotics trafficking that stems from a police raid on their home during which 1,100 grammes of cannabis were allegedly found.
The allegation against Lennox Monderson, his wife Sharon Monderson and their son O’Kelly Monderson is that on June 6, at Port Kaituma, they had in their possession 1,100 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The jointly-charged trio denied the charge when it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that acting on information received, a party of police went to the Port Kaituma home of the defendants, where the illegal substance was found concealed in the bedroom of Lennox and Sharon.
According to Telford, the defendants admitted to the offence under caution but did not do so in writing.
In a bail application, attorney Euclin Gomes, who represented the jointly charged trio, said that nothing was ever found in the room of his clients.
He said that in fact, his instructions are that the alleged cannabis was found in the yard. Further, he said that O’Kelly does not live at the address with his parents and was merely visiting them at the time.
The prosecution, however, objected to the defendants being admitted to bail, while noting that no special reasons were advanced. The court then informed the Mondersons that they would be remanded to prison.
The case was transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where it is to be heard on August 6.
