Dear Editor,
I am sending this letter because I am a driver of a motor vehicle. Driving into Diamond New Scheme, unless you are extra alert or live in the area you would be surprised at the deterioration in the road. At certain points along the generally good road the edges have been creeping in, thus creating necks and narrowing the road at those points. In other words, the edges of the road have been eaten away.
Going east approaching Second Bridge about five or six feet from the corner, there is a drain about ten inches deep and eighteen inches wide almost in the centre of the road. Heaven help the strange driver who drives in there in the night. And to compound the difficulty, there are no lights at the junctions of First and Second Bridges.
Crossing Second Bridge turning right, the motorist will encounter a small trench across the street. He will cross at his own risk and that of his vehicle. Last week I had cause to go in that same direction; I had to brake, reverse and change direction.
I have noticed huge puddles beside the road leading to the Diamond Secondary School. The constant presence of these puddles alongside roads tends to soften the edges thus resulting in breaking and sinking.
Diamond Scheme has one access road, and the least the relevant authority can do is to ensure there is a maintenance crew attached to the NDC or the Ministry of Works. Let it not be a case of penny wise and pound foolish; a stitch in time saves nine.
Yours faithfully,
