The competitions committee of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) took advantage of a slight improvement in the weather last weekend which allowed Albion Cricket Club to record two emphatic victories in the Universal DVD T20 first division competition.
Albion were indebted to former national under 19 opener, Kandasammy Surujnarine, national under-19 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai and all-rounder Jonathan Foo.
In the first game played at the Albion Community Centre ground, the hosts playing against Blairmont CC for the second time over the weekend, won the toss and batted and made a challenging 152 for 5 with Surujnarine top scoring with a classy 60, an innings that included seven boundaries. Veerapen Permaul with 24 and Foo with 20 lent support. Bowling for Blairmont, Derek Narine Lalsa took 2 for 29.
In reply, Blairmont were restricted to 95 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs with Lalsa top scoring with 27. Leg spinner Devendra Bishoo took 2 for 17.
In the second game played at the same venue, Police Cricket Club won the toss and batted scoring a meager 51. National under-19 left-arm spinner Motie-Kanhai took 4 for 10 and Foo 3 for 13. In reply, the home team raced to 52 for 1 off 5.3 overs with Foo returning to blast an unbeaten 31 with four fours and one six.
More matches will be played this weekend, weather permitting.
