Four gunmen yesterday invaded the North Ruimveldt home of Guyana’s Ambassador to UNASUR Audrey Waddell in a brazen early morning attack.
The men stole a flat-screen television, three cellular phones and several chains in the home invasion, which occurred a short while after 2am.
Roseanne Thomas, who is employed by Waddell, told Stabroek News that she had gotten up to pray at around 2:15 am as is her usual routine.
But yesterday she heard a noise and when she looked at the window, she said, she saw a shadow. “The guy was trying to take off the mesh off the window and get into the room,” she recalled.
Thomas said that she was trying to call out to Waddell’s son to alert him, but he had headphones on, so he was unable to hear her. “The guy was pointing the gun at him and when he see him, he started shouting ‘Don’t shoot me,’” she said.
By this time, she said, the commotion had awakened Waddell, who raised an alarm.
Thomas added the entire ordeal lasted several minutes. She said that the police visited the home and dusted for fingerprints but found none. “I don’t know if these guys had on gloves, but the police found no fingerprints,” Thomas said.
Meanwhile, Jansan Waddell said that he was sleeping when he was awakened by someone pulling on his collar. “When I opened my eyes, I see someone standing over me trying to pull me off the bed,” he recounted.
Waddell said that he was the only one outside and he tried to cooperate as much as possible.
“They told me to lie down, but I just sat there… The gun was pointed in my face all the time.” He said that the entire ordeal last about half an hour. He added that the men made their escape through the back door of the bottom flat.
