Telford Layne, who was last week remanded on a charge that he defrauded another man of $13M in a land deal, has had the charge against him dropped on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
When the matter was called again yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, the prosecution informed that it was directed to withdraw and discontinue the charge against Layne based on the advice of the DPP.
The allegation against Layne, of 3264 Lamaha Place, South Ruimveldt Park, was that between December 4, 2012 and February 18, 2013, he obtained $13M from Wayne Hubbard by pretending to him that he was the owner of 12 plots of land located at Ekereku, Region Seven, and was in a position to sell them, knowing same to be false.
