Over 2,000 North Rupununi residents are expected to benefit from the installation of a cellular site in the Aranaputa Valley, North Rupununi District by the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T).
The site will be formally commissioned on Saturday, the company said in a statement, while noting that it will serve Annai and its environs and bridges that part of the corridor from Georgetown to Lethem.
“GT&T is pleased to again lead the cellular penetration into yet another remote part of Guyana. The company is in the final stages of completing another cell site in the Region 8/Region 9 area which will boost service along the Georgetown to Lethem route,” the statement added.
With the installation of the Aranaputa Valley site, the company noted that residents can now engage in many additional socio-economic activites enabled by GT&T’s mobile connectivity.
It also boasted that residents were high in praise for the installation of the service and that reports indicate that they have already begun experiencing the usefulness of the service by announcing their connectivity both locally and internationally.
GT&T noted that in September last year, it took service to Orealla, the only indigenous community in Region 6 and that plans are afoot to continue its mobile expansion.
