Two men accused of stealing the front of a forklift were yesterday placed on $80,000 bail when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer a simple larceny charge.
Kelt Maxwell, 20, of 543 West Ruimveldt and Kurt Brown, 33, of 637 West Ruimveldt, denied the charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
The allegation against the duo is that between April 23 and May 1, at Madewini, Soesdyke Highway, they stole the front of a forklift valued $90,000 and property of Steven Bourne.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said Bourne is a scrap metal dealer and had bought and stored the forklift at Madewini on the Soesdyke Highway, where the two defendants went and stole the item.
The prosecutor said the item was later recovered.
Dexter Todd and Jacy Archibald, who were counsel for the accused, asked the court for reasonable bail, to which the prosecution had no objection.
Bail was granted in the sum of $80,000 and the case was adjourned until June 27, when it will be called at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
