Cabinet has given the green light for the purchase of two 750 KVA generating sets for Lethem.
This was disclosed by Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon yesterday.
Lethem, Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo has been hit by severe power woes in recent months and residents have complained bitterly about the poor response by the administration and region to their concerns.
The value of the award for the Lethem generators is $39.7M
Cabinet also gave the go-ahead for the purchase of one steam sterilizer for the GPHC at $22M, two ventilators for the GPHC at $17.9M, janitorial and cleaning supplies for the GPHC at $26.1M and the purchase of two mobile X-Ray systems at $19M.
For the Guyana Fire Service, $31.13M was cleared for the acquisition of fire-fighting suits and foam concentrate.
Under Housing and Water, $18M was cleared for a well in Lethem.
