Dear Editor,
Recently there have been reports of the government’s intended intervention to address concerns over the financial returns of paddy/rice farmers on the Essequibo Coast.
It would be helpful if concurrently, the authorities could consider taking measures to help alleviate the daily, incessant constraints faced by livestock farmers, including displacement from grazing areas, inaccessibility to alternative land space, high impounding fees, illegal and unnecessary impounding, verbal abuse from crop/paddy farmers, the malicious wounding and poisoning of animals, an expensive veterinary service, and larceny.
Yours faithfully,
Lionel Smith
