Chinese company Bai Shan Lin is in control of almost one million hectares of Guyana’s forest after taking controlling interest in a number of small forest companies with concessions, which has led to concerns by forest researcher Dr Janette Bulkan that the company is engaged in illegal landlording.
In a Power of Attorney, seen by Stabroek News, Bai Shan Lin International identified its subsidiary companies as Karlam South America Timbers (Guyana) Inc, Haimorakabra Logging Company Inc, Sherwood Forest Inc, Wood Associates Industries Ltd and Kwebanna Wood Products Inc.
