A former employee of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs (MoAA) accused of fraudulently converting to his own use $200,000 belonging to the ministry was on Friday placed on $100,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Glenorvan Edmonds, 24, is that on January 29 at Georgetown, being solely entrusted with the sum of $200,000 by Shoma Singh to give to Ecliff Lindie, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit. The money belonged to the ministry. The 2502 Ozama Street, North Ruimveldt resident was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him. Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat who represented Edmonds told the court that his client is willing to, without prejudice, repay the money in full.
However, no representative from the ministry was in court. As a result, the magistrate adjourned the matter to June 17 to facilitate the presence of a MoAA representative and reports on bringing the matter to a close.
Fung-a-Fat, in an application for bail, said that his client has no antecedents, poses no risk of flight and has a fixed place of abode. The prosecution had no objection to the accused being granted his pre-trial liberty.
