Georgetown’s Tutorial High School won the female title and Charlestown’s Secondary the male team title when the Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football National Championship ended yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue yesterday evening.
Tutorial High School ended with six points in the round robin segment to secure the female trophy. Led by their captain Shekela Fraser, one of the 2013 All Star players, Tutorial defeated Berbice High School 2-1 and Christiansburg Wismar Secondary 2-0 in the round robin finals.
Ranett Mohan and Trishel Jarvis scored in the 11th and 47th minutes respectively in their encounter against BHS while the ‘Most Valuable Player’ Shaquanna Hope and Kirtisha Underwood netted in the 24th and 59th minutes against Wismar Secondary who finished in the cellar position.
Georgetown’s defending Scotiabank/Pepsi champs, Charlestown Secondary scored a 3-2 victory in the male championship playoff against Mackenzie High School.
The match saw Omari James, who was also named MVP, scoring a double in the 31st and 36th minutes for Charlestown. Shaquille Campbell pulled one back for Mackenzie High in the 47th minute but Anthony Bartholomew extended Charlestown’s lead with his 56th minute goal.
Several attempts to score by Mackenzie High went in vain until Randal Hohenkirk (66th minute) scored some four minutes before the game ended.
Tutorial’s Head Coach Andel Bethune and Charlestown’s Naylon Loncke were adjudged best female and best male coach respectively in the third edition of the Academy.
The best goalkeeping prize went to Octavia Zion (Tutorial) and Marvin Carter of Charlestown.
