BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC- The new group of players at the Barbados-based Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre (HPC) will be representing clubs in the Barbados Cricket Association Elite division championship.
HPC Head coach, Englishman Graeme West, says the initiative starts from the fourth series of matches on Saturday, and runs for the rest of the 2013 season.
“It is something I was very keen to do for several reasons,” West told the BCA website.
“In terms of groups, it’s pretty young and inexperienced so to get opportunities to play three-day cricket is very important”. West, who also served as the Middlesex Cricket Board’s development officer, said the players will only be involved in the three-day competition.
Barbados’s popular annual Sagicor General Twenty20 tournament goes into the third round on Sunday.
“We feel that by playing in a regular competition, the players will see the benefit of the training and the technical work that they will be doing at the HPC,” said West, first appointed as the HPC Head coach on June 1 last year.
The HPC is based at the 3Ws Oval, Cave Hill Campus, University of the West Indies.
The new players are involved in the third edition of the programme and the 2013 programme, which started June 1, runs until December.
