A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has called on the Minister of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force to immediately convene an inquest into the deaths of the eight miners at Lindo Creek so that “their families can get justice and the nation could have some measure of closure.”
In a statement, APNU demanded justice for the miners who were murdered five years ago. The party noted with grave concern that, after five years of ‘investigations’ there was still no justice for Dax Arokium, Cedric Arokium, Clifton Wong, Bonny Harry, Compton Speirs, Horace Drakes, Lancelot Lee and Nigel Torres.
According to the statement, APNU found it unbelievable that, after five years, police investigators had not been able to solve this crime, even though large amounts of forensic evidence (including DNA) had been collected. It said, “In any event, the Police, by their own admission, have claimed that there was an eyewitness to the crime.”
APNU also called on the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Force to redouble their efforts to ensure that those responsible for the murders are brought to justice without any further delays, the statement added.
