The Berbice Bridge Company Inc (BBCI) held their annual Father’s Day programme on June 14 for the fathers employed by the company. The activity has become a tradition on the BBCI’s calendar of activities.
According to a release, the fathers were each given tokens of appreciation consisting of gift sets, bags, hot/cold mugs and glass rests. They were also served a meal and drinks. The event also honoured the oldest father in D’Edward Village and the former landlord. They received food hampers, t-shirts and caps.
The BBCI said that it does not only collect tolls and facilitate vehicles to cross the bridge and vessels to transit through the retractor span and under the high span, but it also discharges its corporate social responsibilities.
The release said that the company also recognises the contributions made by employees of the bridge. It said that the company plays a role in the development of sports and charitable societies and has sponsored many events that benefited its employees and communities near the bridge in Region 5 and 6, and also as far as New Amsterdam, Moleson Creek and in other regions. The company said for the year so far, 20 out of the 26 public relation requests received, had been approved.
These included sponsorships of cricket tournaments, Mashramani 2013 and horse racing events, donations of trophies to non-profit and educational institutions, facilitating school tours, waiving toll charges for tour buses, providing music for an oldies dance of the Region Six Disabled People’s Network and donations to religious institutions.
