A 54-year-old carpenter was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Monday evening at Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo.
Alister Livingstone of Lot 9, Pump Station Street, Farm, East Bank Essequibo was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
His son told Stabroek News that he received a call from someone on his father’s phone informing him about the accident at 9:30 pm on Monday. He said that when they visited the scene of the accident yesterday morning, they found that part of the number plate had broken off, and after some sleuthing, they found the burgundy Toyota 192 at Leonora with evidence that it had been involved in an accident.
He said that his father was in Parika visiting his sister and was returning home when the accident occurred. Jaisingh Seepaul, an eyewitness told Stabroek News that he was on the road waiting for transportation when he saw the car which was travelling at a fast rate knock Livingstone off the bicycle. “The man on de bike de about to mek a u turn when this burgundy car come fast and knock he and he pitch up in the air. The car speed away. He cruel bad to just leff the man like duh”, he said.
The police in a release said that the driver of the car has been detained and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Livingstone leaves to mourn his wife and two children.
